All of our dogs used for breeding will have an OFA passing hip exam of good or excellent, and current eye
certification. There are so many havanese available don't buy one that's parents may be unhealthy or carrying genetic problems.
Also don't support the puppy mill industry by buying one of their puppies. We love our puppies and will carefully
screen our puppy buyers. To further protect our furbabies from unscrupulous backyard breeders, brokers, pet stores, and
puppy mills we spay or neuter all puppies placed on limited registration before the puppies leave our home. We do this at
no cost to our puppy buyers. I finally got the link to the early spay/neuter site. Click on early spay neuter below and
start researching. You'll be impressed!

It is my hope that I and my dogs will be a positive influence on the breed. I hope in 10 years I'm one of
the majority of Havanese breeders doing the early spay neuter. The Havanese breed has been blessed with many breeders that
do health screenings and are truly interested in breeding to improve. Ethical breeders are always researching the latest trends
in health, medical problems, and care of our animals. If any other breeders want to call me or email to find out more
about the positive experiences I've had with early spay neuter I'd be glad to answer your questions.
Our pups are actually seen by our vet at day 55 of gestation for a prenatal check of the dam and a x-ray
to check the number, size, and position of the puppies before birth. This information is helpful in determining if it will
be a problem delivery. It's also nice to know when labor is over by counting the puppies compared to the number of puppies
on the x-ray. As soon as the pups are 24 to 48 hours old they go to the vet for dew-claw removal and a complete checkup. The
dam is also checked out to make sure she isn't retaining any placenta or puppies. After the all clear we return home to our
quiet puppy nursery right by my bedroom. I normally sleep with my Moms and her puppies until I'm sure they are off to
a good start. The puppies remain near me until their eyes open. They are handled and loved from birth. They are never
dehydrated or go without anything they need. I'm constantly weighing, feeling the skin and making sure they are breathing
those first few days. Then after the eyes open they move to our busy kitchen to begin exploring the world with all of
their senses!

At the 6 week check up the vet goes over the pups and listens for heart murmurs, checks the ears, nose,
mouth and general health of the puppies. At this time I ask the vet any questions about a particular puppy I may have and
get an expert opinion. I am always learning something new about puppy care and I will always have a question. We also talk
about when to schedule the next visit and what I can expect at that visit. It's very much like a pediatrician visit with a
child. I never bring in notes to remind myself of what I was going to ask. I sometimes forget something so take notes and
ask lots of questions!
| The 3rd trip to the vet is at 6 weeks. |
